Advertising
How Google uses advertising cookies
Cookies help improve advertising effectiveness and this is why thousands of websites are available for free. Without cookies, it would be more difficult for advertisers to reach their audience or to know how many ads are displayed and how many clicks made. Many websites, for instance blogs or news sites, cooperate with Google to display ads to their visitors. In cooperation with its partners, Google can use cookies for a series of purposes, for instance not to display the same ad too many times, to find out and stop any frauds relating to clicks and to display more relevant ads (for instance, ads based on visited websites).

Advertising cookies
To help its partners manage their advertising and websites, Google offers various products, among which AdSense, AdWords, Google Analytics and a number of DoubleClick services. When you visit a web page using these products, regardless of it being located on one of Google websites or on one of its third parties’ websites, different cookies can be sent to your browser. They can be sent from various domains, including google.com, doubleclick.net, invitemedia.com, admeld.com, googlesyndication.com or googleadservices.com. Some of Google advertising products allow its partners to benefit from other services besides those offered by Google (for instance, a measuring and reporting service for ads) and such services can send their own cookies to your browser. These cookies are sent from their own domains. Google advertising systems can use other technologies, including Flash and HTML5, for functions such as the display of interactive ad formats. Google can use the IP address, for instance to identify your approximate location. It can select ads also based on information stored on your computer or device, for instance the device model, the browser model or device sensors such as the accelerometer.
Anonymous identifiers on mobile devices
To display ads on services where cookie technology may not be available, for instance on apps for mobile devices, Google can use anonymous identifiers, which have similar functions to cookies. To manage ads published by Google on apps for mobile devices, it is possible to use Google ad settings for apps. To modify preferences or to disable ads based on interests, follow the instructions for your mobile device.

Android
Open the Google settings app on your device. Select Ads.
iOS
Some applications on iOS 6 devices use Apple Advertising Identifier: to learn more on how to restrict ad tracking by using this identifier, go to the settings menu of your iOS 6 device. Legacy applications on your iOS 6 device, as well as applications on devices running previous iOS versions, could use another device identifier. To disable the function for these applications:
• Open Google Research on your device.
• Touch the Settings icon.
• Go to Ads preferences.
